Making a difference…

As I often travel downtown, I always come across people at stoplights begging for money. I often wonder what circumstances bring people to the point where they need to beg for money in order to survive. I often think about how blessed I am to have a roof over my head and a wonderful family and that we all have our health.

I have given money on many occasions to people, handing out loonies and toonies and the people are always very grateful. I am a big softie when I see people with dogs, especially.

A few weeks ago as I was traveling down Spadina Road, waiting in the traffic to get on the West Gardiner Expressway. A man with a knapsack and his little cup came walking in amongst the cars. The women in the SUV in front of me handed the man a $20 bill. You could tell by his body expression that he was truly touched by the amount he had received, almost like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I believe that this woman really wanted to make a difference in this man’s life that day. We are all part of this wonderful city of Toronto and everyone once in awhile, needs a helping hand.
